NNPP imposes six month suspension on Kwankwaso and others

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has taken action against Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate in the February 25th election, due to alleged anti-party activities.

Alongside this, the BoT has also suspended the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

This decision came during a special general assembly held at Rockview Hotels in Apapa, where members voiced their approval for the suspensions.

Dr. Agbo Major was appointed as the acting National Chairman, and Ogini Olaposi became the acting National Secretary, along with 18 others, leading the new national officers.

The suspension of Kwankwaso stemmed from accusations of unauthorized interactions with President Bola Tinubu, Peoples Democratic Party’s Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, which the BoT found to be in breach of the board’s authorization.

This suspension, lasting for six months, entails the loss of Kwankwaso’s status as the NNPP national leader.

The BoT secretary, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, stated that the suspension of Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the party’s founder, by the NWC was a clear violation of the party’s constitution.

A new BoT chairman, Dr. Chief Tope Aluko, was elected, with Abdulahi taking on the role of BoT Secretary, and High Chief Tony Obioha becoming the BoT spokesperson.

The BoT also mentioned the annulment of the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Kwankwasia Movement, The National Movement, and National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders due to the NWC’s actions.

The BoT asserted that these actions were reckless and irresponsible, and Kwankwaso’s suspension is pending a Disciplinary Committee investigation.

Acting Chairman Dr. Agbo Major highlighted the intention to heal divisions caused by the suspended NWC members and emphasized the party’s inclusive and people-centered approach.
