Two individuals, Felicia Nwosu and Chinenye Nwosu, residents of Ndiowu in Anambra State’s Orumba North Local Government Area, have been presented to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for reportedly forcefully taking custody of two underage children belonging to widow Sharon Nwosu.
The accused, said to be the mother-in-law and sister-in-law of the widow, allegedly seized the children after the death of Sharon’s husband.
They accused her of being responsible for her husband’s death.
According to a relative of the deceased, the incident came to light after the widow lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
Sharon, who hails from Enubom Ndiowu, Orumba Local Government Area, explained that her troubles with her in-laws started when she refused to hand over her late husband’s laptop and phone to his younger brother, who demanded possession of these items.

Sharon recounted, “They asked me to hand over the laptop so that the junior brother could take over the contract my late husband, who was an architect, had just secured, warning me not to tell anyone.”
She further revealed that the in-laws accused her of being responsible for her husband’s death and took her children while also taking away the funds given to her by sympathizers.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, expressed concern over the incident and assured the widow that her children would be recovered from her in-laws.
Obinabo emphasized the need to allow widows space to mourn their loved ones without adding to their challenges.
The accused individuals were issued a letter directing them to appear before the ministry along with all relevant parties for further investigation on the matter.
