China’s ongoing crackdown on corruption within the sports sector has led to the investigation of Ni Huizhong, the former head of the country’s Winter Olympics delegation.
Ni Huizhong, who also managed China’s winter sports office, is under scrutiny for “serious violations of discipline and law,” according to the General Administration of Sport.
This terminology is often used to indicate allegations of corruption.
Previously, Ni Huizhong held the position of secretary-general for the Chinese delegation during the Winter Olympics held in Beijing last year, which operated within a Covid-secure environment.

This investigation is part of a broader effort by the ruling Communist Party to combat corruption in the sports industry.
Notably, former national football coach Li Tie, a former Premier League player, has also faced corruption charges, including bribery.
The anti-corruption drive has encompassed other high-ranking football association officials as well, in addition to addressing scandals such as the match-fixing controversy in snooker.
Since his rise to power, Chinese President Xi Jinping has maintained a rigorous stance against corruption, although critics argue that it might also serve to eliminate political rivals.
