ASUU Warns FG: Release promotion arrears or face threat to industrial peace

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged the Nigerian government, after a National Executive Council meeting at the University of Maiduguri, to promptly pay the outstanding promotion arrears owed to its members.

The union emphasized that this action would help maintain peace and harmony within Nigerian universities.

ASUU expressed deep concern about employment irregularities linked to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

The union revealed that members are owed promotion arrears due to problems arising from the mandatory IPPIS enrollment.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) was called upon to address this matter swiftly.

ASUU also condemned employment misconduct involving the discredited IPPIS system, citing revelations made during hearings by the House of Representatives’ Probe Panel on IPPIS.

The union emphasized that these practices undermine university employment standards and breach legal guidelines.

ASUU rejected any unauthorized appointments made through IPPIS in Nigerian public universities.
