The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has countered rumors suggesting that it owes its security personnel more than six months’ worth of wages.
Dr Pius Ughakpoteni, NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, released a statement in Port Harcourt to provide clarity on the matter.
Security staff linked to the commission had indicated their intention to stage a peaceful demonstration due to the alleged non-payment of salaries.
Ughakpoteni clarified that the commission does not directly manage the salary payments of its security personnel; instead, these payments are the responsibility of contractors contracted by the commission.
He emphasized that the reported claims of security workers being owed six months’ worth of pay are unfounded.
