IPOB accuses supreme court of undermining justice in Nnamdi Kanu’s appeal

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that the Supreme Court is obstructing justice in the case of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The separatist group claims that the Supreme Court is using repeated adjournments as a tactic against Kanu.

IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, expressed disappointment and astonishment over the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel the initial hearing date for Kanu’s appeal.

Powerful criticized the Supreme Court’s actions, labeling them as a grave miscarriage of justice and an attack on the rule of law.

He noted that the Supreme Court had previously adjourned the appeal hearing for Kanu’s case to September 14, 2023.

The sudden cancellation of this date, supposedly due to the court’s annual vacation, raised suspicion within IPOB.

The group questioned the Nigerian government’s intentions in failing to release Kanu even after the Appeal Court had discharged and acquitted him.

IPOB called on the international community to intervene and ensure that Kanu’s appeal is heard promptly.

They argued that if the government is no longer pursuing the appeal, Kanu should be released as ordered by a previous court ruling.
