Prominent human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has expressed his view that the Federal Government’s allocation of N5 billion for fuel subsidy removal palliatives is a misguided diversion and wasteful.
Falana conveyed this stance during an interview on Channels Television, where he discussed the matter.
Falana emphasized that addressing the root cause, which is the dollarization of Nigeria’s economy, should be a priority for leaders like Tinubu.

He criticized the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to float the Naira on the foreign market, asserting that many interventions are temporary and often serve as distractions.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State had earlier revealed that N5 billion had been disbursed to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as part of the palliatives, following the National Economic Council meeting.
However, Falana’s critique suggests that focusing on broader economic issues, such as currency stabilization, might be more effective in addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges.
