Troops from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have reaffirmed their commitment to forming a standby force ready to intervene in Niger Republic if diplomatic efforts fail to reverse the recent coup and reinstate civilian rule.

During a meeting held in Accra, Ghana’s capital, ECOWAS member states, except those under military rule and Cape Verde, expressed their willingness to engage in the standby force initiative.

Addressing the gathered Defense Chiefs from ECOWAS nations, Abdel-Fatau Musah, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, emphasized that the steadfast forces of West Africa are fully prepared to take action if necessary, stressing their determination to restore constitutional order in Niger by any means available.

According to reports by the Ghana News Agency, Musah stated that ECOWAS would bring its resources to Niger and welcomed support from any willing organizations.
