The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has expressed strong disapproval of the selection of a Minister of State for Petroleum Resources from the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
Yabagi Sani, the National Chairman of IPAC, voiced his concerns during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily breakfast program.
Sani argued that this appointment sends a misguided message and may foster a sense of entitlement among Niger Delta residents.
He suggested that appointing a minister based solely on their geographic origin could overshadow the importance of their competence and efficiency.

The IPAC chairman proposed that the choice for this crucial ministry should be grounded in professionalism and national interest, rather than regional affiliation.
He raised questions about tackling crude oil theft and emphasized that addressing these issues should prioritize national welfare.
Sani also highlighted the weighty responsibilities of the President and the potential challenges of ensuring accountability and efficiency if the ministry is directly overseen by the President.
He stressed the importance of expert management in the petroleum sector, considering its significant impact on the nation’s economy and the imperative to combat corruption.
