FG sends out N5 billion subsidy palliative and five trucks of rice to each state

During a National Economic Council (NEC) meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the decision was announced to provide a N5 billion grant to each of the 36 states of Nigeria.

Each state will receive five trucks of rice as part of palliative measures to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

The NEC also sanctioned the distribution of 40,000 bags of maize to the states.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State conveyed that these actions aim to offer temporary relief from the rising cost of living due to subsidy removal, while long-term solutions are developed.

States are mandated to purchase 100,000 bags of rice and beans, among other items.

Furthermore, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was instructed to provide food assistance to states bordering Niger Republic due to recent political instability.

The review of the social register is underway, and the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, clarified that only N2 billion has been disbursed to states thus far, contrary to the initially approved N5 billion.
