Abubakar Kyari chosen to lead implementation of Tinubu’s food security strategy

President Bola Tinubu has recently unveiled a comprehensive strategy encompassing short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans to address the prevailing food crisis in the country.

This approach was set in motion following the declaration of a state of emergency on food security.

Tasked with spearheading the revitalization of Nigeria’s agricultural sector and executing Tinubu’s ambitious food security blueprint is Abubakar Kyari, who assumes the role of the nation’s new Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.

Under the aegis of the Tinubu-led administration, significant efforts have been made to underscore the significance of food security.

One conspicuous move was the rebranding of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), demonstrating the government’s unwavering commitment to this vital cause.

Kyari, born on January 15, 1963, and previously serving as the Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District, arrives at his new position during a time of heightened global concerns about food shortages due to the impacts of climate change.

Amidst challenges such as insecurity, banditry, floods, and corruption that have adversely affected the region’s economic backbone, the Tinubu administration has prioritized food security.

The president’s multifaceted approach has garnered widespread attention and recognition from both Nigerians and the international community.

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), in response to the appointment, expressed optimism regarding the new minister and the renaming of the ministry.

Kabiru, the Association’s President, praised the selection of relatively youthful individuals to drive the pursuit of food security, urging prompt actions against underperformance and corruption while acknowledging and appreciating commendable achievements.

Abubakar Kyari, hailing from Borno State, has held various roles within his political career spanning from 1998 to the present day.
