United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has published its Annual Sustainability Report for 2022, presenting an overview of the bank’s dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance and principles.
The report emphasizes UBA’s commitment to social inclusivity, ethical business practices, reducing carbon emissions, responsible conduct, and robust governance.
NetZero status
It also underlines the bank’s pursuit of NetZero status and its thorough assessment of potential impacts from both physical and transitional risks on its business strategies.
The report encompasses a comprehensive array of metrics and objectives spanning corporate governance, strategic approaches, risk management, corporate social responsibility (CSR), while also highlighting the bank’s dedication to enhancing the quality of non-financial performance data and disclosures.
Ugo Nwaghodoh, the Executive Director of Finance and Risk Management at UBA, stressed the institution’s commitment to a purpose-driven approach, focusing on fostering socioeconomic and environmental value for Africa’s long-term welfare.
He emphasized that genuine sustainability goes beyond fulfilling regulatory requirements, emphasizing the bank’s holistic approach.

Chidozie Ezike, Head of UBA’s Sustainability Desk, expressed satisfaction with the bank’s achievements in 2022. He highlighted the significant strides in financial inclusion, with the bank successfully onboarding over 200,000 agents across Nigeria, a doubling from the previous year.
Additionally, UBA’s dedication to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is evident, as the bank trained more than 8,533 individuals and extended financial assistance to over 22,000 SME customers in 2022, a substantial increase from the 5,000 SME customers assisted in the preceding year.
