Man arrested for selling one day old grand daughter

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a man named ‘Monday Chukwuka’ for allegedly selling his one-day-old granddaughter for N700,000.

The arrest took place in Ibafo, Ogun State, following credible intelligence. The police received a report about the harvesting of a day-old baby girl from her teenage mother, Sarah Chukwuka, in Oyo town.

The baby was reportedly sold to a criminal cartel running a baby factory in Abia State.

Upon investigation, Monday, the father of the teenage mother, confessed to the crime.

He explained how he took the baby from her mother right after birth, under the pretense of finding someone to care for her. The newborn was then taken to Abia State and sold for N700,000 to the owner of a baby factory.

During a coordinated raid on the baby factory in Abia State, multiple individuals were apprehended, including a female suspect identified as Popoola Bunmi, along with Chinwedu Peter, Chidinma Blessing, Chuckwu Christopher, and Favour Chukwu, who were involved in the criminal activity.

Police found bundles of new birth certificates and equipment for baby deliveries at the factory.

Monday, the main suspect, claimed he sold the baby because he couldn’t afford to care for his teenage daughter and the newborn.

The teenage mother, Sarah, was unaware of her father’s intentions and believed he was only temporarily giving the baby to someone for nurturing.

The alleged buyer, Favor Chukwuka, stated that she bought the baby for a childless couple and received N50,000 as compensation for her involvement in the transaction.
