Death toll climbs to 10, over 30 hospitalized in Zaria mosque collapse

Around 10 Muslim worshippers have tragically lost their lives due to the collapse of Zaria Central Mosque in Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria.

Approximately 30 others have been admitted to hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Initially, reports on Friday stated that four individuals had been confirmed dead and seven were injured when a section of the Zaria Central Mosque collapsed during prayers.

Survivors recounted that the incident occurred during the second Sujud of the Asr Prayer, when a part of the mosque suddenly crumbled onto worshippers.

Mallam Shehu Nagari, a survivor, shared that a loud noise was heard, and suddenly a portion of the mosque collapsed onto worshippers, enveloping the area in dust.

Following the funeral for the first group of victims, Abubakar Bamalli, a source at the Emir’s palace, confirmed to The Sun that additional worshippers were unfortunately pronounced dead.

Moreover, 30 injured individuals have been transported to various hospitals in Zaria.

The funeral proceedings for the deceased took place after the isha prayers and were attended by notable figures, including the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, senior councillors, and a large number of residents.
