Co-hosts Australia achieved a remarkable milestone by reaching the Women’s World Cup semifinals for the first time after a breathtaking penalty shoot-out triumph against France at Brisbane Stadium.
Following a goalless 120 minutes, the Matildas secured a 7-6 victory in the shoot-out, marked by intense twists and turns.
Australia’s goalkeeper, Mackenzie Arnold, emerged as a hero with four crucial saves during the shoot-out, including a retaken penalty.

The winning spot-kick was scored by Cortnee Vine for Australia. Although Arnold herself had the opportunity to seal the win, her strike hit the post.
