Troops belonging to Sector 1 of Operation Hadarin Daji successfully conducted a rescue mission to save Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie, a former Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau, and his son from the clutches of bandits.
The incident took place on the night of August 10, 2023, when the two were kidnapped from their residence and taken into a forest.
The Nigerian Army released a statement on August 11, detailing the operation.
According to the report, the troops, patrolling the Shemori – Yandoto road near the Marke area, encountered an unspecified number of armed bandits.

An intense firefight ensued, and due to the troops’ superior firepower, the bandits fled into the nearby forest.
In pursuit of the fleeing bandits, the troops were successful in rescuing two civilians, Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie and his son, who had been abducted from their home.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the victims were abducted the previous night before being rescued by the prompt arrival of the troops.
The rescued individuals were joyfully reunited with their families, while the troops continued to maintain a vigilant and active presence in the region to ensure ongoing security.
