I withdraw my statement – Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, says after he publicly announced that a little token had been sent to senators as they go on vacation (video)

Senate President Godswill Akpabio swiftly retracted his statement upon realizing he was inadvertently being recorded while disclosing that a modest sum had been deposited into each Senator’s account as they commenced their vacation.

The legislators had commenced their recess on August 8 and were scheduled to resume their duties on September 26.

During the August 8 plenary, Akpabio, seemingly unaware of the live broadcast, openly mentioned that a “little token” had been transferred to Senators’ accounts by the National Assembly’s clerk to facilitate a pleasant holiday period.

However, as it became evident that his comments were being broadcasted live, Akpabio promptly retracted his statement, amending his earlier announcement.

He stated, “I withdraw that statement. In order to enhance your holiday experience, the Senate President has dispatched prayers to your email addresses to ensure a safe journey and return.”

The incident highlights the unexpected moment when Akpabio’s offhand comment, intended to convey a gesture of financial assistance, was reversed in the midst of a live broadcast, shifting the focus to well wishes instead which seems fishy.
