Niger’s military junta has cut off diplomatic ties with Nigeria, France, Togo, and the United States, according to a national broadcast by Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane, spokesperson for coup leader General Abdourahmane Tchiani.
The move comes amidst ongoing tensions following the military takeover in Niger Republic.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, in his role as the Chairman of the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), sent a delegation led by former military Head of State General Abdulsalam Abubakar to Niger in an attempt to resolve the crisis.
European countries have started evacuating their nationals from Niger, and Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea have expressed support for the coup.
The situation remains tense and uncertain in the region.
