The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has officially halted its planned strike after the intervention of President Bola Tinubu and the Senate.
The decision was reached during a National Executive Council meeting of the Congress.
The announcement was made by the NLC’s national treasurer, Hakeem Ambali, in a brief message to the media.
The protest organized by the NLC took place across the country, including the Federal Capital Territory, and led to an emergency meeting between the President and labor leaders.
Initially, the NLC had insisted on the government demonstrating seriousness before suspending the strike.
During the protest in Abuja, demonstrators even pulled down the gates of the National Assembly to gain access and meet with lawmakers.
After a meeting with President Tinubu, NLC President Joe Ajaero stated that the President had made certain commitments. The NLC is expected to provide further details on the matter shortly.
