NMA commences indefinite strike following doctor’s tragic death

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State chapter, has taken a strong stance following the tragic death of Dr. Vwaere Diaso, a medical house officer, who lost her life in an elevator accident at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos.

In response to this heartbreaking incident, the NMA has directed all doctors working in three government hospitals on Lagos Island to commence an indefinite strike.

The hospitals affected are the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos; Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos; and the Massey Street Children’s Hospital, Lagos.

The association has also declared a five-day mourning period in the state, urging doctors in other government-owned hospitals to scale down activities as a mark of respect for their fallen colleague.

The NMA has demanded an immediate and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dr. Diaso’s death, holding authorities accountable for this avoidable tragedy.

The association’s statement also highlights the pressing need for improved blood transfusion services and infrastructural repairs in government hospitals.
