Reps to probe alleged sale of training helicopters by NCAT

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets has announced its intention to investigate the alleged sale of two training helicopters by the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria.

The committee expressed concern over the urgency in the sales and concession of public assets, particularly as it occurred at the end of the previous administration.

The reported sale of two Bell 206L-3 helicopters, originally acquired by NCAT for N1.2 billion, raised suspicions, as the supposed approval was obtained during the previous administration.

Despite the Nigerian Navy’s offer to acquire the helicopters for addressing security challenges like oil pipeline vandalization and crude oil theft, they were sold under the pretext of under-utilization.

The committee aims to ensure due process and prevent any hidden agendas in the sale, while also exploring alternative uses of the assets for fighting banditry and insurgency in the country.
