Protesters voice concerns over leadership crisis in Abuja market

Protesters, comprising traders, gathered at the entrance of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) office to voice their concerns over the management crisis in the Abuja Market Management Limited (AMML).

The protest urged the Permanent Secretary of the FCTA, Olusade Adesola, to intervene in the ongoing dispute arising from the sacking of the former Managing Director, Abubakar Faruk.

Faruk’s suspension by the previous FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, was followed by a claim from him that his appointment letter lacked a fixed tenure, which made his removal from office invalid.

Subsequently, the commission issued a letter terminating his contract but clarified that his position as a director would remain unaffected.

The traders demanded clarity on the genuine MD of the AMML to ensure proper administration and address their concerns about revenue collection and market affairs.

The Head of Internal Security of the FCTA, Sunday Olubiyi, appealed for calm and assured the protesters that the Permanent Secretary was actively working to address the situation.
