The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken legal action against Governor Ademola Adeleke for appointing himself as the Commissioner for Works.
The ruling party filed a lawsuit at the State High Court in Osogbo, Osun State.
The APC is challenging the appointment of Kola Adewusi, the governor’s deputy, as the Commissioner for Sports and Special Needs.
Governor Adeleke’s decision to announce these appointments on July 19th has caused concern within the APC.
The opposition party, represented by its lawyer Sherif Oluyombo, is seeking the court’s determination on whether a sitting governor can legitimately hold any other executive office in addition to the governorship.
The plaintiff is citing relevant sections of the Nigerian constitution, particularly Section 192(2) and (5), to inquire whether a person can be validly appointed as a commissioner without their nomination being forwarded to and confirmed by the State House of Assembly.
