The Department of State Services (DSS) faced criticism for their actions at the Federal High Court in Lagos during the appearance of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Despite being granted bail and ordered to be remanded at the Ikoyi facility of the Nigerian Correctional Services, the DSS re-arrested and whisked him away, leading to a clash between DSS operatives and prison officials.
Emefiele was arraigned on charges of illegal firearms possession before Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
The defense lawyer moved for bail, which was granted at N20m with certain conditions.
However, after the court proceedings, a dramatic scene unfolded with the DSS attempting to re-arrest Emefiele, causing anger among his family members, lawyers, and the public.
The incident was widely condemned as a display of disrespect for the court and the rule of law in Nigeria.
