Woman abducted by herdsmen rescued in Ebonyi state

A woman, identified as Mrs. Nkechinyere Onachukwu, who was abducted by suspected herdsmen in Ishiagu, Ivo local government area of Ebonyi state last week, has been successfully rescued.

The incident occurred when she was taken from her farm in Amaonye Community in Ishiagu last Tuesday.

Following a determined manhunt conducted by security agencies in collaboration with the Council security under the leadership of Chairman Emmanuel Ajah, she was freed on Monday, July 24.

Confirming the successful rescue on Tuesday, July 25, Ajah stated that security trackers from outside the state were brought in to trace the kidnappers’ movements.

He also informed that the security agencies are still in pursuit of the kidnappers to apprehend them.

Ajah explained that the few kidnapping cases reported in the local government are attributed to herdsmen crossing the border from Abia State to target women working on their farms and swiftly retreating across the border.

Mrs. Onachukwu shared her harrowing ordeal, revealing how she trekked for days through thick forests before arriving at the kidnappers’ den.

She recounted their initial violent encounter and her pleas for release.

During her captivity, she contacted her husband through a phone provided by the kidnappers, and negotiations eventually led to her safe release.
