On Tuesday, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, engaged in a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta.
Describing it as a private gathering, Abiodun highlighted the informal nature of the meeting, indicating it was simply a visit to the elder statesman.
During their discussion, the governor focused on the issue of fuel subsidy removal, lamenting that Nigeria incurs a staggering N4 trillion loss annually due to the subsidy regime.
Despite the hardships it may entail, Abiodun stressed that now is the opportune time to eliminate the subsidy, asserting that the benefits of its removal far outweigh the initial pains.
Drawing parallels with a similar initiative under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the governor commended the decision to end the subsidy, as it allowed funds to be redirected for the country’s economic revival.
Despite the challenges, Abiodun maintained that such a crucial step was vital for Nigeria’s long-term progress.
