A tense showdown occurred at the Federal High Court in Lagos between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) over the custody of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The Federal Ministry of Justice had charged Emefiele for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, but he pleaded “not guilty” and was granted bail of N20 million with one surety.
While the defendant’s lawyers worked on fulfilling the bail conditions, a mild drama unfolded on the court premises as DSS operatives, donning hoods, and NCS officials disputed over who would be responsible for the embattled CBN boss.
Both agencies’ vehicles were positioned near the court entrance, and the NCS even brought dogs into the premises.
Sources revealed that the DSS was contemplating re-arresting Emefiele, despite the court’s bail order.
