On Sunday, a tragic incident occurred in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, resulting in the death of at least 20 people.

The unfortunate incident took place along the Benin-Ore-Sagamu Expressway when a petrol tanker overturned and spilled its contents.

The victims, comprising three children, a pregnant woman, and others, were scooping fuel from the tanker when the disaster struck.

According to an eyewitness, the fire outbreak was triggered by a spark from a phone that belonged to one of the individuals involved in fuel scooping.

Despite the rainy weather, people still rushed to the scene to collect fuel, unaware of the impending danger.

The authorities, including the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, have confirmed the incident and described the victims as fuel scoopers.

An investigation into the matter has been initiated to shed light on the circumstances that led to this devastating event.
