According to a statement issued on July 20, 2023, by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State, has raised its fees for undergraduate students.
The decision came after a meeting between the university’s top management staff and the SSANU representatives.
Previously, students at the institution paid N19,000, but the new fees have been set at N190,250 for medical students and N140,250 for courses requiring laboratory and studio use.
Students without laboratory and studio requirements will be charged N100,750.
During the meeting, a representative from SSANU, Rasaki Yusuf, requested a rebate for university staff members with children attending the institution.
However, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, asserted that the new fees were fixed nationally and could not be adjusted for specific student categories.
Despite attempts to obtain a comment from the university’s Public Relations Officer, Alagba Ibraheem, there was no response.
The option of paying fees in instalments was offered by the university, but with a condition to settle the full payment one month before the final exams.
Further details are yet to be disclosed.
