Nigerian gold medallist becomes voluntary road worker in Lagos

Bassey Etim, popularly known as Ironbar, a Nigerian gold medallist, has chosen an unconventional path by utilizing his inner strength to carry out road repair work in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

It remains uncertain whether this has been his primary means of livelihood, but during an interview with a TikTok user @_egungun, the weightlifter was seen receiving money from a grateful motorist for his dedicated efforts on a damaged road.

Dressed in all-black attire and wielding a shovel, Etim explained that he embraced weightlifting as a way to make a positive impact on society.

He proudly recounted winning a gold medal for Lagos State in his first competition, the 1981 National World Festival.

For the past seven years, Bassey Etim has been voluntarily contributing his time and energy to perform road maintenance duties, as confirmed during the interview with @_egungun.
