Fulham has presented a £15m initial bid for Calvin Bassey, the Nigerian defender. Ajax, the player’s current club, is yet to respond to the offer, while Bassey still has four years remaining on his contract with them. The 23-year-old is also garnering interest from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Bassey previously spent successful seasons at Glasgow Rangers, playing 65 games and winning the league title in 2021 and the Scottish Cup the following year.

Since joining Ajax last year, he has appeared in 39 matches, contributing one goal and five assists.

Having come through Leicester City’s youth academy, Bassey made his international debut for Nigeria in March 2022 and has earned 10 caps for the Super Eagles.

Fulham, aiming for improvement this season, has already secured former Chelsea and Arsenal winger Willian on a new one-year contract.
