An unidentified man lost his life, and 48 others were injured in a powerful explosion that rocked Johannesburg, South Africa.
The underground blast occurred on Wednesday evening, causing significant damage to roads and damaging 34 vehicles.
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, but the cause of the explosion remains unknown.
The gas supply company for that area denied responsibility for the incident. During the nighttime rescue operation, the lifeless body of the deceased victim was discovered.
The Gauteng province premier, Panyaza Lesufi, stated that authorities are still searching for the source of the explosion.
As of the report, 36 injured individuals had been treated and discharged, while 12 victims remained hospitalized.
The extent of the damage was extensive, with six roads affected and a five-city-block area left in ruins.
