Tobi Amusan faces anti-doping charges for missed drug tests

Tobi Amusan, renowned Nigerian athlete and world-record hurdler, has confirmed that she is facing an anti-doping rules violation charge due to missing three drug tests within a 12-month period.

Amusan shared this information on her Instagram account on July 18 and expressed her intention to fight the charges.

She aims to resolve the situation promptly to defend her title at the upcoming World Championships in Budapest.

Emphasizing her commitment to clean athletics, Amusan mentioned that she undergoes regular testing by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and had been tested shortly before her third “missed test.”

She remains optimistic that the issue will be resolved in her favor, allowing her to compete in August.

According to the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, accumulating three whereabouts failures (Filing Failure and/or Missed Test) within 12 months constitutes an anti-doping rule violation, which typically incurs a two-year ineligibility sanction, subject to reduction based on the degree of fault.

Despite the ongoing situation, Amusan demonstrated her athletic prowess by winning the Diamond League meet in Silesia, securing her second victory of the season after a triumph in Stockholm.

In a recent competition at the Golden Spike athletics meet in the Czech Republic, she achieved third place in the women’s 100m hurdles, narrowly behind reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico, who finished in 12.42 seconds.
