Sudanese drivers left idle as war halts transportation

Sudan’s ongoing war has devastated road transportation, leaving truck drivers like Mahana Abdelrahman stranded and jobless.

The conflict, which erupted in April and quickly escalated, has killed thousands and displaced millions.

Abdelrahman, who has been a lorry driver for two decades, says he has never experienced a war like this before.

With checkpoints, airstrikes, and skyrocketing fuel prices, road traffic across the country has dropped by 90%.

Displaced residents from the capital, Khartoum, have sought refuge in Al-Jazirah state, but they still face severe shortages of food and supplies.

The war has also disrupted commercial activities and halted train and bus services, leaving many drivers and transportation workers fearing for their livelihoods.

The impact of the war has been devastating for the population, with essential services like water and electricity unavailable in parts of Khartoum North.
