Plateau security forces arrest 1,000 grazing cattle invading Mangu farmlands

Over 1,000 cattle have been captured by troops from Operations Safe Haven (OPSH), responsible for security in Plateau State, for grazing on farmlands in the troubled Mangu Local Government Area.

The OPSH Special Task Force intercepted the cows, along with a large number of sheep, as they grazed on farmlands in Dumunan village, Bwai district.

The district has recently experienced frequent attacks, resulting in farmer fatalities, burned houses, and displaced locals.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the cattle and sheep came from Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local governments.

The animals are now in OPSH custody, awaiting appropriate action. Major General AE Abubakar, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, has pledged to address the root causes of the crisis and prevent further attacks in the Mangu area.

Senator Diket Plang has also urged the military to extend surveillance to farming areas to combat the increasing destruction of farmlands by bandits.

He stressed the negative impact on the farming community, food production, and overall peace efforts in the region.
