A civil liberty organization, Network for Advocacy and Good Leadership Initiative (NAGLI), has strongly criticized the Federal Government’s plan to increase electricity tariffs by 40%, stating that it will deepen the suffering of Nigerians.
The group emphasized that the timing of the proposed hike is unfavorable, considering the negative impact of the recent fuel subsidy removal.
In a statement released by the Director-General of NAGLI, Dr. Agodi Kanu, the organization called for meaningful engagement with stakeholders, transparent decision-making processes, and the pursuit of sustainable solutions that prioritize the welfare and economic prosperity of all Nigerians.
The statement highlighted the adverse effects of the proposed increase on households, small businesses, affordability, accessibility, and urged the government to focus on renewable energy sources and address existing challenges in the electricity sector.
