Troops from the 192 Battalion Nigerian Army operating within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility successfully intercepted an international ammunition smuggling syndicate.
The operation, which took place on July 15, occurred along the Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops apprehended a truck transporting a large quantity of smuggled ammunition destined for Anambra.
The truck was found to contain 720 packets of Red Star Cartridges of 12 Calibre, totaling 18,000 cartridges, as well as an additional 250 packets of live cartridges of the same calibre.
The suspects, a Ghanaian national named Eric Seworvor and the driver, Mr. Lukman Sani, have been apprehended and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.
Preliminary findings suggest that the weapons were smuggled from Mali through the Idiroko International Border.
