Anambra police arrest 11 suspects in one week for rape and defilement

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of 11 suspects in various rape and defilement cases reported in the past week.

According to the state police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests were made in different localities across the state during the week.

The Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has directed that all suspects implicated in the investigations be promptly arraigned in court once the investigations are concluded.

Ikenga provided details of some of the cases, including the arrest of six suspects involved in the gang rape of a 19-year-old lady in Orama-etiti, Anam.

Three suspects were apprehended for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Abagana, while another individual was arrested in connection with the defilement of a 13-year-old girl in Ekwulobia.

The commissioner of police commended the police operatives and vigilantes for their dedication and expressed a firm commitment to combating sexual crimes and gender-based violence in the state.
