Suspect confirms attempted assassination of Apostle Suleman during attack

In a recent development, the police authorities in Abuja have paraded a group of 20 suspects involved in crimes such as conspiracy, attempted murder, murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and drug possession, among others.

Among the suspects is 32-year-old Yusuf Isah, who was apprehended for his involvement in the attempted assassination of Apostle Johnson Suleman, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, in October 2022.

Isah confessed during an interview with journalists that the attack on the cleric was a planned assassination.

Gunmen had attacked Apostle Suleman’s convoy on the Benin-Auchi Road in Edo State, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including three police officers.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that Isah was arrested by the Intelligence Rapid Team following an extensive investigation.

Isah revealed that he and his accomplices had trailed the pastor and attacked him with five AK-47 rifles.

During the arrest, law enforcement recovered five AK-47 rifles, two K2 rifles, 180 live ammunition, and four suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from Isah’s apartment.

Adejobi further disclosed that some of the rifles seized had been taken from the three police officers killed during the attack.

Isah admitted to his involvement in multiple criminal activities, including kidnappings for ransom.

He mentioned specific instances of abducting an oil magnate and a businessman, for whom ransoms of N70 million and N2 million were respectively paid.

The police spokesman revealed that two members of the seven-man gang had been killed in separate encounters with law enforcement, and efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining fugitives.

Other suspects were paraded, including individuals involved in kidnapping, such as Emu Chidiebere, Samuel Balogun, Babatunde Femi, and Nneka Opara.

Adejobi provided further statistics, stating that in the past two months alone, the police had arrested 548 armed robbery suspects, 242 kidnapping suspects, 365 murder/homicide suspects, and approximately 237 individuals for rape and defilement.

The authorities also successfully rescued 113 kidnapping victims during this period and recovered 306 firearms along with 3,944 rounds of ammunition throughout the country.
