Osun court sentence fake lawyer to three years in prison


A 25-year-old man named AbdulGafar Ayanrinde has been handed a three-year prison sentence by the Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for falsely posing as a lawyer.

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps revealed that Ayanrinde committed the offenses between May 18 and 22, 2023, and was apprehended on May 24 by NSCDC operatives.

According to the NSCDC spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, Ayanrinde deceived five unsuspecting individuals by presenting himself as a barrister and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

He stole an iPhone worth ₦450,000,00. During the trial, Ayanrinde pleaded guilty to charges of impersonation of a legal practitioner and obtaining money under false pretenses.

Magistrate M.A. Olatunji, after finding him guilty, imposed a three-year prison term for each count, to be served concurrently.

The magistrate ordered that the sum of N150,000, which was the proceeds of the crime, should be transferred from the convict’s account to the victim’s account.
