Ogun community suffers four month blackout due to faulty transformer

Residents and business owners in the Ebute community, Ibafo, in Ogun State have expressed their frustration over a prolonged blackout lasting for approximately four months.

The lack of electricity has severely impacted their daily activities and businesses. Several streets in the area, including Pipeline, Last Born, Ifedara, Igba Otun, and Ifedapo Ebute, have been affected by the outage.

To address the situation, the community members have been pooling their resources to purchase a new transformer, which is estimated to cost N7 million.

However, they have struggled to raise the required funds.

The absence of electricity has adversely affected various individuals, such as fashion designer Christiana Adebayo, who has resorted to using a stove for ironing clothes.

Another resident, Abimbola, highlighted the challenges of using a generator due to the exorbitant fuel prices.

Ganiyu Oladipupo, a representative of the Community Development Council, called on the government, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), and the state government to provide assistance.

The IBEDC’s Head of Media Relations, Busolami Tunwase, expressed unawareness of the community residents being responsible for the transformer’s cost.

She assured that a new transformer would be sent to the community and advised residents to liaise with the technical manager in Ibafo for further updates.
