The Kano State Government has announced that it will provide overseas scholarships to Persons Living With Disabilities in the state, as long as they meet the necessary qualifications.
The State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, revealed this as part of the government’s commitment to ensuring equal access to education for all residents, in line with international conventions.
During a meeting with representatives from Mercy Corps and the Coalition of Disabled Self Advocacy Network Group, Commissioner Doguwa also expressed the government’s intention to establish inclusive schools in various parts of the state.
This initiative aims to ensure that individuals with disabilities are actively involved in the state’s development plans.
In addition to the scholarship program, the state government has recently provided 150 NECO examination registration forms to PWDs, encouraging them to utilize the opportunity to improve their living standards.
Commissioner Doguwa emphasized the government’s dedication to partnering with NGOs to enhance the welfare of the people, and he called on development partners to align with the state administration’s policies and programs to achieve sustainable results.
