Dele Alli, the England international and Everton midfielder, has opened up about being sexually abused at the age of six by his mother’s friend.
Speaking on Gary Neville’s show “The Overlap,” Alli also revealed his struggles with addiction to sleeping tablets and his time in rehab this summer.
The 27-year-old shared a traumatic childhood, including being sent to Africa at a young age, engaging in drug dealing, and being subjected to violence.
However, he emphasized that he was adopted by a loving family at the age of 12, who provided him with immense support.
Alli disclosed his recent addiction to sleeping tablets, which he believes is a prevalent issue in football.
Following his loan spell at Besiktas, he underwent addiction treatment and an operation, finding himself in a difficult mental state.
He praised Everton for their unwavering support during this challenging time and expressed gratitude for making the decision to seek help.
