Woodberry, Hushpuppi’s associate, receives 8-year jail term from US court, faces deportation

Olalekan Ponle, widely known as Woodberry, has been handed an eight-year prison sentence by a United States district court for his involvement in fraudulent activities.

Woodberry, an accomplice of the infamous Nigerian fraudster Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, was extradited from Dubai, where both were arrested, for separate trials in the US.

Initially maintaining his innocence for over two years, Woodberry eventually changed his plea and admitted guilt to one count of wire fraud during a hearing in April at the US District Court for Northern Illinois.

The presiding judge, Robert Gettleman, accepted the change of plea and ordered Woodberry’s imprisonment for 100 months, followed by immediate deportation under the custody of U.S.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Woodberry is obligated to pay approximately $8 million in restitution to seven victims affected by his fraudulent activities.
