Tragedy struck as unknown gunmen targeted and assassinated a well-known community leader, Solomon Ehinoma, at a church in Edo State.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 9, 2023, in the vicinity between Amagba and Evbukhu near Benin City.

According to reports, the assailants stormed the church during a service and killed Ehinoma in front of his wife, two children, and fellow church members.

The shocking incident caused chaos as people fled for safety. Ehinoma, a businessman and the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Oke-oroma Community, fell victim to an ambush set up by the gunmen within the church compound.

Eyewitnesses revealed that multiple gunshots were fired indiscriminately, injuring some church members as well.

Mrs. Osareniye Solomon, the grieving widow, recounted the horrifying events, explaining how her husband was shot and attacked with a machete by the assailants.

The gunmen also stole Ehinoma’s mobile phone and ATM card before fleeing the scene.

The State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched a thorough investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
