Tragic auto crash in Enugu claims lives of family of four and others

In Enugu, a tragic accident at a military checkpoint on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway has claimed several lives, including that of a family of four.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at Ugwu Onyeama, resulting in five immediate fatalities and leaving many others with varying degrees of injuries.

Eyewitnesses report that a tanker carrying inflammable products collided head-on with a cement trailer due to the checkpoint blockade.

This collision affected several vehicles in the queue, including a fully loaded GUO bus, a private car with parents and their two young children, and an unmarked bus.

Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai expressed his condolences and gratitude to the hospitals and first responders for their prompt actions in treating the injured victims.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening institutions responsible for road safety and urged for regular vehicle maintenance and driver training programs.

The government has pledged support in assisting with the treatment of the injured individuals.
