President Bola Tinubu has sent a letter to the Senate, urging them to confirm the recently appointed Service Chiefs.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter during the plenary session, announcing that the service chiefs will undergo screening by the entire Senate in the chamber at a later date.
Akpabio explained that as the relevant Standing Committees of the Senate have not yet been constituted, the Service Chiefs will be screened by the Committee of the Whole of the Senate.
The nominated service chiefs awaiting confirmation are Maj. Gen. C.G Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. T. A Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, and AVM H.B Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.
In his letter, the President stated that the request aligns with the provisions of Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act, and he emphasized the current security situation in the country, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts between the legislature and the executive to ensure a well-protected nation.
The letter further explained that the review of the Defence Architecture and the appointment of new leaders aims to foster synergy among them to achieve the expected level of optimal performance in the Military.
