Stella Oduah, a former Aviation minister and Senator, has criticized the recent charges filed against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
She claimed that the charges were politically motivated and an attack based on her gender, asserting that there is no evidence supporting the charges as required by law.
Oduah’s lawyer, James Onoja, expressed these views after Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered an investigation into the charges against her.
The charges were filed by individuals claiming to be EFCC personnel and relate to forgery allegations concerning Oduah’s National Youth Service Corps certificate.
The court discovered that one of the witnesses, Mohammed, was no longer affiliated with the EFCC but with the police force.
The judge directed the EFCC to investigate the matter and provide a report within a week.
Oduah’s lawyer highlighted several irregularities in the charges, including the absence of legal practitioners’ seals and the jurisdiction of the EFCC to prosecute such offenses.
He pledged to take legal action against the prosecutors and report the matter to relevant authorities.
He also emphasized the need for adherence to the rule of law and accountability in the new political dispensation.
