The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the Federal Government a fresh two-week ultimatum to address the lingering demands of its members.
This decision was reached during the Extraordinary National Executive Council (E-NEC) virtual meeting held by NARD.
The ultimatum comes after NARD assessed the implementation level of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the government on May 19, 2023, following a five-day warning strike by the association starting on May 17, 2023.
During the meeting, NARD unanimously passed resolutions that included demanding immediate payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) as outlined in the approved budget.
Settlement of outstanding arrears such as hazard allowances and skipping arrears, release and implementation of guidelines for clinical staff replacement, discontinuation of downgrading membership certificates, payment of salary arrears and implementation of salary structures, domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act, and an increase in the CONMESS salary structure.
NARD has extended its ultimatum by an additional two weeks until July 19, 2023.
They emphasize that failure to meet their demands by the stated deadline may result in industrial disharmony within the healthcare sector nationwide.
