The Edo State Government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have collaborated to train 500 young individuals in Edo State, Nigeria, to enhance their skills for future employment.

The initiative, named ‘Digi Link,’ was organized in partnership with ACIOE Associates and Public Digital, aiming to bolster the state government’s digital capabilities.

The Focal Person of the Edo State Social Investment Programme, Ms Osayueamem Aladeselu, stated during a press conference at the one-day workshop that the program is designed to equip young people with the necessary skills to thrive in the future workforce.

It aims to foster entrepreneurial skills, inspire enthusiasm about future career paths, promote responsible digital citizenship, and bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Ms Aladeselu emphasized the importance of young individuals participating in the digital transformation process and acquiring the right skills for success in the digital age.

The training provided an opportunity to discuss utilizing innovation and technology to address societal challenges and capitalize on the digital infrastructure established by the state government, including the Edo Innovation Hub.

The Program Director of Digi Link, Mr Ekenem Isichei, mentioned that the Learning Series for university students will be conducted in every university across Edo State to prepare students for a digital future and nurture a pool of talented individuals to contribute to the digital landscape of the state.

The program also included a panel session titled “Digital Transformation: Unlocking Opportunities for Career Growth,” featuring panelists from various fields, who shared insights on leveraging digital technology for career advancement and contributing to the development of Edo State.
